There is Help and Hope at The Heights

Integrated Treatment for Substance Abuse and Co-Occurring Mental Health Issues

Residential Treatment

The Heights offers residential treatment at two locations in St. Paul–Capitol Heights and our newest facility on Jackson Street. Both locations offer 30-, 60-, and 90-day inpatient residential treatment for women only.

We recognize that women who struggle with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues, as well as past trauma, are more successful in a gender-specific environment. At both locations, women will find the resident experience safe, secure, and supportive.

The Heights offers an evidence-based, integrated treatment approach combined with proven methodologies that are non-traditional.

  • Family education. At The Heights we work with the client’s family to educate and open up the paths of communication. Once the client has completed treatment, they are more likely to be successful when they are supported by loved ones in their sobriety.
  • Canine companion. Our English Springer Spaniel, Wallace, offers residents unconditional love and companionship at our facility. Wallace is currently going through the process of becoming a certified therapy dog.
  • Visits with children. While residents’ children are not allowed to stay at the facility, we do provide a kid-friendly area where children can visit.
  • Recovery events. Being a part of community is essential to recovery. As such, our residents participate in a variety of recovery events in the area.

Outpatient Therapy

Long-term recovery can be difficult to maintain without ongoing support, especially following the structure of a residential program. As of January 2019, The Heights now offers an intensive outpatient program for women. This program involves 3 group sessions per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00a-12:00p), as well as a flexible schedule for individual counseling and treatment coordination.

Outpatient therapy allows for a healthy transition into a lifestyle of recovery. We believe that success in treatment does not mean “making recovery your life”, but rather “making your life your recovery”. Sobriety is just the first step, but it’s rarely enough on its own, and instead allows one the opportunity to make the other changes necessary for recovery. This can be best achieved by also setting realistic and manageable goals, finding meaningful ways to use one’s time, energy, skills, and leisure time, building a system of support in the community, and increasing communication skills and setting boundaries to navigate the realities of daily life.

Our program is based primarily in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but takes a biopsychosocial approach to our clients’ individual situations and intricacies. We are fully compatible with any support system one chooses to engage in the community, including AA/NA/other 12-Step programs, as well as alternatives (SMART Recovery, Rational Recovery, etc.). We understand that recovery looks different for everyone, and that having the same problem doesn’t necessarily mean finding the same solution.

Note: You do not need to have attended our residential program to be eligible for outpatient services.

These services may include:

  • Assistance with finding a job
  • Help with finding housing
  • Support groups
  • On-going therapy
